Eastern White Pine
Eastern white pine is the softest pine available, with a Janka rating of 380. Planks are available with more or fewer knots, depending on the style you’re going for. Wood taken from the heartwood of the tree is a light brown color, sometimes with a reddish hue. Planks taken from the sapwood of the tree range from pale yellow to almost white.
While eastern white pine is very soft, that doesn’t mean it won’t last for hundreds of years. The floors can be sanded and refinished periodically to get rid of any dents and scratches that occur. However, we don’t recommend installing it in high traffic areas of the home such as the living room.
