Cleveland East Pine HardwoodPine is one of the many great hardwood species that the experts at Floor Coverings International Cleveland East provide. While pine is technically a soft wood, the durability does vary depending on the exact type of pine chosen. Pine brings a unique and rustic look to any home in the greater Cleveland East area. Its prominent knots and graining appeal to many homeowners. Learn all about your different Pine options below.

Heart Pine

Heart Pine comes from the heartwood of the tree, which is the darkest and hardest part of the tree. It has a Janka hardness rating between 1225 and 1280, depending on the exact type of Heart Pine. It has beautiful red coloring with gold tones, so it is rarely stained.

Eastern White Pine

Eastern White Pine is the softest pine available, with a Janka rating of 380. Planks are available with more or fewer knots, depending on the style you’re going for. Wood taken from the heartwood of the tree is a light brown color, sometimes with a reddish hue. Planks taken from the sapwood of the tree range from pale yellow to almost white.

While Eastern White Pine is very soft, that doesn’t mean it won’t last for hundreds of years. The floors can be sanded and refinished periodically to get rid of any dents and scratches that occur. However, we don’t recommend installing it in high traffic areas of the home such as the living room.
